The Theme for Celebrating Life 2014
The over-arching theme for Celebrating Life 2014 is 'Living in Harmony'. Bangladesh has always been an exemplary nation of harmony. This togetherness among the people of Bangladesh makes it look like a very homogenous country. Yet, more than 10% of population is non-Muslim and hundreds of tribal groups make up the demography of the country.
History of Bangladesh tells us the same story where, for thousands of years, different ethnic groups have come here to visit and settled. Just to name a few, Arabs, Turks, Mongols, British, French, Portuguese, Biharis, Punjabis, Assamese and many more have come here for trade and commerce. They and intermingled with the locals and have often married local wives. This array of people brought with them different culture and tradition making Bangladesh rich in diversity.
Even today, we find various people living in harmony with different cultural with any animosity of clash. The young generation of Bangladesh must carry on the tradition of harmony. They must learn to coexist with their neighbors peacefully without any prejudice. Therefore, it is a perfect time to explore and showcase the world the harmony we've been carrying on for years and will keep it for years to come.
Contestants are allowed complete freedom to explore any subject matter of their choice within this theme. However, we strongly encourage you to broaden your horizon of thinking and take your cameras and pens to the remotest corners of Bangladesh. We urge you to bring rural Bangladesh to the limelight. Please note that the Photography and Lyrics Contests of Celebrating Life 2013 are tied to the overarching theme, but the Film Contest's theme/ subject is open to the imagination of the filmmaker.
