The Theme for Celebrating Life 2013

The over-arching theme for Celebrating Life 2013 is 'Empowerment of Women'. With half of the country's population being women - they are of Bangladesh is the country's one of the biggest asset. They are the ones who help shaping the minds of the future generation. Their views and opinions undoubtedly have a significant impact in shaping the future of Bangladesh.

Empowerment of women in Bangladesh means giving women the power to rule and govern their own lives, away from traditional and social constraints.

Empowerment of women means having the power and authority they need to be equals. The social structures that have kept women in the dark for so long must be eliminated. In modern Bangladesh, women not only play the role of a household authority but also have the intellectual resources that are acquired through good education and material resources that can be accumulated with the help of all in society.

The violence against women must also stop. Women need to gain a lot more power over their decision making process. In Bangladesh, gender inequalities are a social construction that must be eliminated with time.

Contestants are allowed complete freedom to explore any subject matter of their choice within this theme. However, we strongly encourage you to broaden your horizon of thinking and take your cameras and pens to the remotest corners of Bangladesh. We urge you to bring rural Bangladesh to the limelight. Please note that the Photography and Lyrics Contests of Celebrating Life 2013 are tied to the overarching theme, but the Film Contest's theme/ subject is open to the imagination of the filmmaker.
